Brian Montgomery Nominated to Number Two Position at HUD
Brian D. Montgomery has been nominated to serve as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a position he has filled in an acting capacity since January 2019.
Montgomery has also served as the commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) since June 2018. Montgomery previously served in this role from 2005 to 2009, under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama. During his first tenure, he spearheaded regulatory reform of RESPA, developed solutions for struggling homeowners during the financial crisis, and led FHA modernization efforts. He has also served as vice chairman of the Collingwood Group, an advisory firm focused on business consulting, risk management and compliance within the financial services industry.
If confirmed by the Senate, Montgomery will be the second most senior official at HUD, and he will manage the day-to-day operations of the department and advise Secretary Carson in leading the department’s approximately 8,000 employees.
